What is the difference between “Try It,” “Product Preview,” and the actual product?
When you “Try It” you are able to see a single page PDF of the concept-- essentially what a photo would look like under a word in the Expressionary. When you “Product Preview” during the 4th step of the Expressionary customization process, we let you see how your image quality will appear in the Expressionary. Neither the “Try It” nor the “Product Preview” allow you to see the correct order of the words as they will appear in the actual Expressionary you will receive. Your Expressionary will appear to be a full physical dictionary with the photo you uploaded beneath the words that you chose to best describe someone close to you. The words you choose appear in the order they normally would appear in a full dictionary.
Is this a gift?
Yes. The Expressionary is meant to be a personalized gift. The Expressionary includes photos of someone you know underneath the words that you select to best describe them. The photo you upload is placed beneath the words that you’ve selected, in the order that they normally would appear in a dictionary.
Why do you ask for my general relationship information?
Our goal is to help people express themselves. By specifying some general relationship and demographic data, we can offer word recommendations that will help you better describe the person for which you are purchasing this gift. Without this information, we are left recommending words and associations blindly. And remember, we never associate your general relationship and demographic data with your specific personal information.
What is your policy on returns?
Due to the individualized nature of the product, Expressionary cannot provide refunds or cancel orders, and except for the cases expressly described in the return policy (i.e., your Expressionary arrives damaged, with a manufacturing defect or a defect in workmanship), Expressionary cannot otherwise accept returns.
What is your policy on shipping?
Once ordered, most Expressionary’s are printed within 48 hours. Once printed, your Expressionary will be shipped via the method of your choosing. We try and offer at least two shipping options for your ship-to destination. For full information, please view our Shipping Policy.
Why isn’t my word in the dictionary? How can I get it in the dictionary?
We have attempted to provide a dictionary with a comprehensive list of descriptive words. Many dictionaries do not contain words like “caring” but only include the root word “care.” We have attempted to include all words that follow this rule by including not only the root word, but also variations of it. If your word is not in the dictionary, please Contact Us and include “Word Addition” in the subject. If we feel your word should be included in the Expressionary, we will add it, and notify you of when you can order an Expressionary with the newly added word. Please note that only true words (i.e. not proper nouns) will be considered.
How do I order?
Ordering an Expressionary is simple.

First select either a hardcover or softcover version of the Expressionary with either a modern or traditional cover design.
- Next tell us a little bit about yourself. -
Type in your name, age, select your gender (male, female, or group), and tell us who you’re buying an Expressionary for.
- Now define your relationship. - Fill in the person’s name and ten words you feel best define them and your relationship.

If you get stuck KHARIS, our word recommendation engine, will be right by your side to help.
- Next upload your photo of the person or persons the Expressionary is for.
- Finally select the partner charity. Now that you are in the shopping cart simply hit the checkout button.
Once you have hit the checkout button:
- Fill in the billing and shipping information.
- Select a shipping method (after you have filled in the billing and shipping info), by clicking the select shipping method.
- Fill in your payment information. We accept VISA, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
- And order your Expressionary.
- o A confirmation email will be sent to you and you will be redirected to a confirmation page.
Do you offer any volume discounts?
Please Contact Us for information regarding this. We can usually offer volume discounts for orders of 20 Expressionary’s or more when we are shipping all of them to the same address.
What is it exactly that I am giving?
An Expressionary is a gift of thoughtful expression, in which you select the words that best describe the individual with whom you are in a relationship. The Expressionary is a dictionary organized proprietary, that includes photos of the individual for which you are purchasing the Expressionary below the words that you choose to best describe them. How do you pick the charities that I get to choose from?
We try and focus on charities that truly help the disenfranchised and hurting. Whether it be a small child struggling with cancer, a young boy without an adult male role model, or a starving child in a far off country, these are the types of charities on which we focus. We also investigate each charity to ensure that the vast majority of donations go to the people and not to organizational operating budgets. How much is the Expressionary?
The cost of the Expressionary depends on which cover option you choose—hardcover or softcover. The softcover Expressionary retails for $29.95. The hardcover edition is just $15 dollars more, retailing at $44.95.
How many pages are in the Expressionary?
The Expressionary consists of over 400 pages, resulting in a book thickness of approximately 1 inch.
Is the Expressionary a full dictionary?
The Expressionary is a proprietary dictionary that is optimized to allow people to express themselves. The approximately 40,000 words contained in the Expressionary contain parts of speech that are most often used to describe individuals.
How many words can I choose?
Most people can only think of 2-4 words to describe those people closest to them. With the help of KHARIS, our word recommendation engine, you will be able to choose a total of 10 words to describe the individual for which you are purchasing the Expressionary.
How many images can I choose?
Currently you can choose 1 image for your Expressionary. Typically, the photo people upload is a photo of the recipient of the Expressionary. This photo is placed below each word that you select.
Can I make one Expressionary for 2 or more people? For example, could I create one Expressionary for my parents or for a group of friends?
Yes. By placing an image of a couple, a family, or any other group of individuals, you can give an Expressionary that represents not only their individual qualities, but their qualities as a whole as well.
What browsers are supported?
We support Internet Explorer (IE) 6.0 or newer, Safari 3 or newer, Firefox 2.0 or newer, and Opera 8 or newer. We also support the Google Chrome browser. If you experience difficulty in any of the supported browsers, please disable add-ons and clear you cache as these may be presenting problems. If problems persist, please contact us and we will work to resolve the issue for you.
How do I upload a file?
During the 3rd step of the process in which you build your Expressionary, you will be asked to upload a photo to correspond with the words that you’ve selected to describe someone close to you. You can navigate to find a file on your computer by selecting the button labeled “Browse” and then navigating to the folder in which you store pictures on your computer. If you have Facebook and would like to include a photo from there (or any other photo sharing site), simply save the image found on Facebook to a folder on your computer. Then “browse” and navigate to select that file.
